Limba străină (English for Computer Science)
Anul I

The course English for Computer Science is designed for undergraduates who are studying Information Technology and Computer Science and are already proficient in computing in their own language, but need to develop the English language skills in the context of their specialism.

It offers a combined program leading to an in-depth examination of specific areas of grammar, semantics and pragmatics, an exploration of IT texts with the purpose to acquire the necessary skills, develop a database of computer terms as well as use them effectively in a range of specialized contexts.

The course aims at all-round skills development: reading, listening, speaking, writing, and language use.

      • Reading offers a wide variety of authentic IT texts with an informative character.
      • Listening aims at developing the ability to understand native speakers talking about IT (listening for specific information, for the main points, for details, for taking notes).
      • Speaking exercises focus on developing the ability to participate in exchanges of information and opinions in the context of IT; the ability to provide explanations of features of computing and to give advice on IT problems; the ability to develop strategies for coping with not understanding and not being understood.
      • Writing teaches and provides practice to write instructions, descriptions and explanations about topics in Computing and IT.
      • Language items consolidate and extend the students’ understanding and use of structures and functions common to IT and Computing.

Beside the above-mentioned objectives, the course will help undergraduates to improve their ability to speak English fluently, their pronunciation, and to expand their IT vocabulary.
